The Ultimate Back Pack

Even Dora's "backpack" can't hold a candle to this goodie! It's called "Bug Out Gear" and it's the ultimate "manly man" pack. It's like a rucksack, but for every day use. It's got all sorts of bells and whistles....

When you first see it you wonder, "what's the big deal? It's just a backpack". Uh...no. I picked this puppy up off the rack and discovered that the first uncommon thing about it was the weight. It WEIGHS a lot. But not so much for a man to carry around. (thank goodness!).

Oh, but it's well-made and well-equipped. It's got a small nylon mesh pocket up front (good for those "gotta see" things like...uh...well, you know...STUFF. Then it's got a big zippered pocket, with more pockets inside. And there's the OTHER zippered space. When first opened, you wonder, why did they put tie-downs in there? Oh, but there's more and more. First off, it's got "side expansion straps". This means that if you release these straps, you get a bit more space in the largest compartment. BUT THERE'S MORE! It's got a ZIPPERED expansion area too...so you can open this bag up even more!

You can expand it a full twelve inches. That is a LOT of space. That explains the tie-downs in the main compartment. If you're using the bag to it's full potential, you'll need those to tie the stuff down. It's got leather, highly padded shoulder straps with places to hook things. It's got a thick padded waist strap to help distribute the weight evenly. It's got quick adjust/release straps (just like a rucksack!). It's got the sternum strap to keep the shoulder straps from slipping.

And yet, there's still MORE to this bag. The bag is compatible with "hydration systems" (read: camelbaks and such). And if you're not using the hydration system pocket, you can tuck the shoulder straps down inside, put the waist straps into THEIR convenient pocket and carry the bag from a handle at the top...OR the handle on the SIDE...OR the shoulder strap. This nifty backpack becomes a great overnight bag...a regular piece of luggage!

And yes, Scott got it as a Father's Day gift. He's been playing with it all day, discovering all the things it has, like a permanent clip (similar to climbing clips) that you can hang your keys from), and all the fun goodies you can do with it. It was a gift from all of us (yes, me included!) and I think it's going to get a lot of use!

Time to rush home so that Scott can get Hannah and go to the theatre to see Ice Age 2...should be interesting!
