A sad farewell

Hannah has to say goodbye to two of her very good friends today. They all met either at church or preschool. Hannah first met Ashlyn at childcare during PWOC. She was happy to see that Ashlyn was part of her preschool class. She then met Taylor who was also part of childcare during church and PWOC.

Today, both Ashlyn and Taylor leave. Taylor's father is leaving the Army and they are moving to Omaha. Ashlyn's father has been reassigned to Ft. Riley. As luck would have it, we're headed there too, only a few months away. At least they'll be able to reconnect there. Since Omaha's only a few hours away, we are planning on taking a Saturday and heading up to Omaha to visit with Taylor and her family. The "princesses" will be together again.

On this end, Emily is the last of the princesses. She is not going anywhere, so she will be the only one left come July. We sure will miss her, and I am hopeful that she'll make more friends.

I leave you with the picture of three of the 4 girls who were here on Friday. Of course, I could not get Hannah to smile - guess she realized that she's losing two good friends. From left to right: Taylor, Ashlyn and the pouty Hannah.

My daughter and her husbans and son just left the Army. It must be hard to be always saying goodbue, but on the plus side you end up with friends to visit all over the world. Michele sent me.

Oh my, that is one reason I don't think I would like the military life -- you may meet alot of people and see alot of places but you always have to leave them behind. As for pouty Hannah, most of the pics I have of her are pouty -- hummm -- we may have to nickname her "Bedine" LOL

I can imagine being a mititary family has it ups and downs for all family members. Just remind Hannah that you have to say good-bye to be able to say hello again. This helped me alot when the exchange students I hosted had to return home. Friendships last a lifetime and at least there is hope they will continue with some of these remaining close.

as "pouty" as she is now, imagine how HAPPY she will be when she meets with her friend again at Ft. Riley.

It's not good-bye, it's "until next time"....

ahh...good old ft. riley! i went to school at k-state (which is about 20 minutes away from ft. riley). my hubby was actually stationed there when we met. he's no longer in the army, but i have fond memories of manhattan (both college and the 1st year of marriage).

please eat at the hibachi grill/texas star for me when you go! if it's still there, it's in aggieville, the downtown manhattan strip near the college. i totally miss it. i recommend the shrimp tacos at texas star!

i don't know if you've been to ft. riley before...if you can't live on base because of the wait(or don't want to), i suggest living in manhattan. you don't have to live near the school, but it offers a lot of things to do (restaurants, concerts, etc.). it's only a 20 minute drive to base. STAY clear of junction city and the like. it's just a really icky little town near the base, and no matter what anyone tells you, NO place for the kiddies.

I hope your kids read this when they're older and realize how treasured these relationships were. I hope they find some way to reconnect with their childhood friends someday.

Beautifully written.
