Thematic Photographic - Animals

On my previous post, I shared the bison and turkey from the Konza Prairie. Seems like I'm always a bit ahead of Carmi's theme! This week, it's all about animals...so...

Here are some of my favorite visitors to my home:

One of the many blue jays that come and take the bread we put out.

Mr. Squirrel - we had several hanging out, but lately, only one returns for the peanut butter crusts!

We thought he was a stray (and a HE) and named him Otis.
Turns out, he's a SHE and SHE belongs to the neighbors. And her name is
Katan - but we still call her Otis. She comes in and speaks loudly,
but she doesn't like to be touched. Fickle feline.

Beautiful pictures! Don't you just love the blue jays! Very cool!

The angles on the blue jay are really stark. I can't stop looking at the photo.

What strikes me about all three is how fast-moving and skittish all of these animals are. Yet your composition suggests you spent lots of time setting them up Just So. It's a hard compromise, yet you pulled it off consistently here. Neat.

As an amateur photographer, I am very drawn to your photos. I love the "extras" you can find in most of them. Birds and animals are probably my favorite subjects, so I'm truly enjoying this week of photos.

That shot of the squirrel is awesome!

Cute cat, and funny story with it!

I think the jay wins the prize with most of us -- and for good reason. But the other two... classic expressions. Almost stereotypical. (Especially on the cat's face!)

Those are beautiful pics! I'm going to write a big post explaining... but the short story is Brian is going to do active duty green to gold at Penn State for the next two years. We're sad to leave here but looking forward to being closer to family (his are from PA and mine are in NJ) and it's good for our family and what he's always wanted to do. So yeah, we're sad to leave here but at the same time, happy for this new adventure.

Also, how do you set up that feed thing you were talking about so people can know when I've posted?

I love your photos...great choices. Of course, the cat is my favorite, but the blue jay and squirrel run a close second.

I love the blue jay shot. I wish I had visitors like that to my yard!

I love your discussion of Otis/Katan, but that squirrel photo is amazing. You did an impressive job of capturing it looking, well, very squirrely. I've always had them come out looking scruffy and twitchy, and not nearly so... hm... soft. Your guy looks like he would be cuddly.

I love photos of birds too and of course cats... living in Australia I really don't know much about squirrels but I think they look really interesting and very sweet. Love your photos and I appreciate my back yard visitors so much too.
